A shout out to nobody...

Because no one is probably reading this....=). Maybe I should write about computers, I mean that is what I do all day. In fact I just built a new one. It has an 8 core processor and 16 GBs of RAM. Some of you might not know what that means...but for those that do (I know you are jealous) I would be.

I bought a new motherboard CPU and RAM, as well a couple of other components. I wanted to spend as little as possible so If I already had parts that fit the bill, I used those as well--like an old case.

Not everything fit in the case, so I had to make some modifications. I have put in liquid cooling because otherwise it would be really loud. I hate loud!
So meet Frankenputer!!!!

You see I need the raw power of this beast to make the music for the show. We can not afford a live orchestra. So, we have the next best thing, the top sample software on the planet. www.soundsonline.com if you want to check it out.

For those of you that are scratching your head right now, when you compose music on a computer it uses a format called MIDI which taps into a sound made by a computer. As you can imagine, computers can't really make real instrument noises. So to get around that, you use an audio sample for instance when the virtual violin plays an A, an audio file is called by the program that has a real recored violin playing that note. "Welcome to the real".

The string section alone for our sampled instruments contain over 300 GB of files. You can control everything from the velocity of the note(volume that it is played out) to the actual fingering of the instrument itself.

So is that enough geek talk for one day?

Awesome computer, Matt!!! I build my own computers too. But, I have always been too nervous about liquid cooling. How fast have you clocked it?

I barely have 16 GB on my hard drive, so I am duly impressed :-)

Regrettably my Motherboard does not allow for over-clocking. But with 8 processor It shouldn't need it right?
